Flex connectors are often fabricated from EPDM, natural rubber, neoprene or silicone. Natural rubber is a good general purpose choice in many situations, including food-grade applications. It offers excellent tear strength and abrasion resistance. EPDM is harder than natural rubber, and it is often used in food-grade environments. Finally, silicone is the material of choice when flex connectors are subject to high temperatures, oxidation, weather and/or extreme wear.
